It's not an airborne virus, it's transferred. The only person left infected was the younger brother and unless he kissed his sister or the pilot, I doubt that it would've crashed.
The only ways to transfer the infection, as shown by the films, is either by blood in the mouth/eyes or saliva & open wounds. How does the Helicopter crash? No, seriously.
How does the Military believe that placing every single resident of the building inside a confined space where they could easily be found be a much better solution than guiding them out of multiple exits?
